‘Footloose’ Kicks for Drama Students

Laguna Beach High School’s drama department joined forces with schools throughout Southern California to show bits of their spring musicals for the John Raitt Awards for Youth, on May 1 at Fullerton’s Plummer Auditorium.

LBHS won several nominations and top honors for their March musical, “Footloose,” featuring singing, dancing and acting skills by 50 students.

The show was nominated for best lighting, best choreography and best production.  The following students were also recognized individually with certificates of nomination in the following categories: Caroline Rechter for stage manager; Natalie Redwitz for female dancer; Haley Castuera for female soloist; Karina Parker for supporting actress; Luke Dressler for comedian; and Sawyer Pierce for actor.

Highest category winners included the “Footloose” stage crew. Sharing the highest award for a best show crew: Caroline Rechter, Kasey Henderson, Parker Poche, Axel Rodriguez, Hagen Deremo, Jamie Duncan, Gabe Carr, Riley Duncan,  Emil Nurullaev, Josie Goson, Tony Davia, Caroline Eidt, Sydney Nash, Zane Fair, Emily Roberts, Marley Becker, and Hailey Ferguson.

Makenna Zur Schmiede captured the best supporting actress award for her portrayal of Wendy Jo.
