Singer-songwriter Beth Fitchet Wood and Festival of Arts’ exhibitors Scott Moore and Mike Tauber are nominees for artist of the year at the fifth annual Art Star Awards, the Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts announced this week.
The winning artist of the year as well as winners in five other categories will be announced Friday, April 1, in a 6 p.m. event at Seven Degrees on Laguna Canyon Road.
Organizations, business and individuals who have contributed and shaped the arts and culture of the community and the county will be honored. “The 5th Annual Art Star Awards promises to be a five-star celebration, with an after-party and dancing to follow dinner and the awards,” said event chair Lisa Mansour.
Alliance members from more than 20 Laguna Beach arts organizations submitted nominees in five categories.
The categories and the nominees are: best new arts program, Artist Open Studios, Marine Mammal Studios, Musical Theatre University; arts patron of the year, Robert Hayden III, The James Irvine Foundation, and Wells Fargo Bank; outstanding arts collaboration, Festival of Arts and Orange County school’s Junior Art Exhibit, Laguna College of Art & Design and Hurley’s action sports track, and Sawdust Art Festival and Laguna Beach Visitors Bureau art classes; innovation and arts leadership, Laguna Art Museum, Laguna College of Art & Design and Laguna Playhouse.
In addition, the recipient of a $5,000 Inspiration Grant for an emerging or established Laguna Beach artist from Seven Degrees will also be announced.
The evening’s entertainment will feature local musician Dan Reckard in a trio including fellow USC colleagues Jeff Stein and Jose Gurrias on guitar and percussion.
