Survivor Recognized for Screening Initiative

Laguna Beach resident Holly Morrell has been named a 2011 Rare Life Award winner by Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. As part of the award, Eagle Rare will donate $1,000 to Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, the non-profit organization founded by Morrell that provides cardiac screenings, education and public awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Honorees exhibit courage, leadership, survival, devotion, character and heroism. Candidates are nominated by friends, family and colleagues.

Morrell’s battle to detect the disease that is the leading cause of death in the U.S. stems from her family history, which has claimed six relatives, and from being a survivor herself.

To date, Morrell has provided costly cardiac screenings for a nominal donation to more than 16,000 people..
