Getting Dirty in the Wilderness Parks
The Laguna Canyon Foundation celebrates Earth Day with volunteers interested in restoring habitat from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Volunteers can assist in removing invasive plants at two locations: Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Ranger Headquarters, 28373 Alicia Parkway in Laguna Niguel; and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Nix Nature Center (west side of Laguna Canyon Road, about 3.5 miles south of I-5/405).
The foundation will also host a special Earth Day Hike through Lauren Canyon on Friday, April 22, led by local natural historian Dr. Allan Schoenherr. Space is limited.
Reservations are required for all events. Call 949-497-8324. For more info, visit www.lagunacanyon.org/Earth_Day.html.
Earth Day Cleanup and Concert Set
Rick Conkey dared fellow residents to take the Help Blue Water Challenge, cleaning the entire city of Laguna Beach on Earth Day, Saturday, April 23, earning a discounted ticket to a concert at Hotel Laguna.
He envisions an army of volunteers extracting litter from every beach cove, street and trail. “Clean one city; then next year two become possible,” said Conkey, seeking volunteers to act as neighborhood captains.
Participants can be part of Earth Day history by assembling for a pre-cleanup hug at 8 a.m. on Main Beach near Hotel Laguna. In return for contributing 30 minutes towards the clean-up, volunteers will earn a discount on a $20 per person admission to the annual Earth Day Concert, 6 to 10 p.m. at Hotel Laguna. Musicians including Jason Feddy, Sasha Evans and Doug Miller, Beth and Steve Wood, Bobby Hawkins, and Justin James are slated to perform.
To volunteer for the cleanup or reserve concert tickets, contact Conkey at 949-734-0485 or Rick@HelpBlueWater.com.
Pizza boxes? Broken glass? Cardboard? What can actually be “recycled”? Much more than you would think!
Demystify the gray recycle bin and become educated at a free recycling education talk at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 429 Cypress Drive.
Transition Laguna Beach and Village Laguna co-host a 30-minute recycling tutorial by Waste Management representative and local Michelle Clark.
