Softball (2-1, 7-4)
Breakers, who returned to varsity league play after a three-season absence, captured two of three league contests played before this week’s spring break. On Tuesday, April 12, Laguna scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning to defeat host Estancia 5-1 in Costa Mesa. Haley Putnam went the distance for the win striking out 11. The following day, Calvary Chapel (2-0, 11-5) showed why they are the league favorites with a 15-2 victory over Laguna at the Thurston field. The Eagles hammered Breakers for eight runs in the first inning and was 12-0 before the Laguna could score. On Friday, the Breakers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Godinez (2-1, 6-11) 9-8.
Laguna has the inside track for a playoff spot hoping to become just the second team in the 26-season history of the sport at Laguna to earn one. The school’s only CIF appearance was a 4-0 loss to West Torrance in the 1990 AAA division playoff.
The team will return to league play on April 25 at Costa Mesa and will host winless Saddleback on April 26.

Boys Golf (11-2, 11-6)
Breakers won a pair of matches last week as their season winds down. On Tuesday, April 12, Andrew Palmer fired a 33 to lead Laguna to a 193-251 dual match victory over Loara at Aliso Creek. On Thursday, April 14, Laguna defeated Orange 208-264 at Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana. The team’s final match will be on Monday, April 25, when they host undefeated Estancia.
Swimming (4-0 Boys) (4-0 Girls)
Laguna edged closer to another dual meet season title with a pair of wins over second place Godinez on April 13 at the local pool. The boys won 104-63 and the girls took the Grizzlies 115-54. The season’s last dual meet will be on April 27 at Costa Mesa
Boys Tennis (5-0, 7-7)
Breakers continued to march towards another league crown defeating Saddleback 18-0 on April 12 on the local courts. Laguna won 108 of 100 games contested in the sweep. Laguna returns to the courts on April 26.

Boys Volleyball (7-0, 14-10)
Breakers continued to roll through the league last week easily defeating Godinez 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 on Tuesday, April 12, at Dugger Gym. Robbie Mc Knight led all players with 23 kills, five blocks and four service aces. Austin Hillemann added 13 kills, Alek Burk 12. Burk and Conner Cooper each had long serving runs to hammer the Grizzlies (2-2, 9-10). Jack Winn added 29 assists and Troy Donenfeld led the defense with 12 digs. Breakers are off until April 28 when they face Godinez at their gym.
Breakers have won 24 league titles (2011 will be # 25) with an all-time record of 371-55 in league matches through last week. Laguna has already clinched their 38th straight trip to the playoffs, a record for Southern Section volleyball teams.
