The local Home Instead Senior Care office is encouraging family caregivers to dig into the family recipe box to find a favorite recipe to prepare and share a meal with their senior loved one.
Research by the company discovered that seniors’ biggest mealtime challenge is lack of companionship.
Enter the recipe and a story about what makes the dish special in a contest by Sept. 15. The contest at www.mealsandcompanionship.com is part of an effort to help seniors stay connected socially and eat more nutritiously by offering caregivers tips to encourage companionship and healthy meals.
About 40 percent of those 75 and older, 6.7 million people, live alone, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
