Local Couple Illustrate Sea Book
Laguna Beach residents Ret and Karen Talbot have been named co-author and illustrator in a book project about a coral reef fish indigenous to a remote Indonesian archipelago.
A fulltime freelance writer and photographer who frequently covers fisheries issues, Ret will embed with a scientific expedition travelling to Indonesia in May to study the species, and he will then co-author the book based in part on that experience. Karen, a scientific illustrator and fine artist known locally as a Sawdust Art Festival exhibitor, will be the book’s primary scientific illustrator.
Entertainment Lawyer Reveals a Gritty Side
Laguna Beach-based entertainment litigator and law professor Peter Afrasiabi’s new book “Show Trials,” to be released May 1, puts a spotlight on immigration rights practices in the nation’s courts.
He said “Show Trials” describes shocking and legal constitutional rights violations in his other career as a pro bono attorney, where he litigates federal appellate immigration cases as founder of Chapman University Law School’s 9th Circuit Appellate Litigation Clinic. He is the current co-director of UCI’s Appellate Litigation Clinic.
Saying Goodbye to Your Dog
Geoffrey Bain, author of “Just One More Day,” a dog lover’s guide to saying good-bye, will be in the Anything Canine Boutique, 357 S. Coast Highway, on Thursday, April 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. to discuss and sign copies his book.
The book gives counsel and comfort for those dealing with the loss of a beloved pet.
