A Jazz Pianist With a Sound All His Own

Laguna Beach Live! presents award-winning Josh Nelson and his trio Aug. 8 in the Hotel Laguna Rose Garden, 425 S. Coast Highway, 6 p.m.

Nelson, 32, a semi-finalist in the 2006 Thelonious Monk competition, works as a jazz pianist, composer, teacher, and recording artist.

Peter Erskine says he possesses a rare musical attribute: a touch, a tone, and a “sound” that are all identifiably his own.
