Art Exhibit Explores Evil Notions
CES Contemporary opens their first exhibition of 2013, entitled “The Crust”, on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 480 Ocean Ave.
The exhibition will present a selection of works from the new body of work by renowned Norway collage artist Ashkan Honarvar. His intellectually dense work probes the notion of evil as embedded within each culture, history, and human being.

Students Display Hard Work
Laguna College of Art and Design is holding a graduate student exhibition that opened this week through March 9 at the Laguna Beach City Hall, 505 Forest Ave. A formal reception will be held Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to Artwalk.
The exhibition will display select works from students of the two-year graduate studies program focused on formal and conceptual representational painting.
Photographs Explore Primitive Cultures
Photographer and local resident Karen Redding will share her intimate photographs of remote primitive cultures during a public reception on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CAP Gallery on the second floor of the Wells Fargo Bank Building, 260 Ocean Ave. The exhibit opens this week.

New Works Arrive on the Edge
Beginning in January and continuing through March 15, Pacific Edge Gallery will be featuring the latest paintings by gallery artists Maria Bertran, Tom Swimm, Sandra Jones Campbell, Jacobus Baas, and Bryan Mark Taylor, as well as the artwork of John Lennon.
Photo Contest Celebrates Protected Areas
Laguna Bluebelt marks the first anniversary of Laguna’s marine protected areas with a photo contest.
The group is asking for submissions of photos taken from the last year related to the beach, tide pools or ocean, or bird and marine life.
The second annual photo contest is open to anyone and entries are eligible to win prizes such as a helicopter ride along the coast, a scuba dive and boat trip, whale watching cruise, kayak or SUP tour and gift card from La Sirena Grill.

Deadline Nears for Artist Grant
Those seeking the $5,000 Seven Degrees of Inspiration award from the Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts must apply by Feb. 8.
The grant recipient will be announced at the annual Art Star Awards on April 7. The grant is intended to support an emerging or established local artist develop an innovative arts project or diversify their audience.

Surf and Turf on Tap
Surf to Skate Exhibit, created by authors Stanton Hartfield and Jason Cohn, will be open to the public from Saturday, Jan. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Surfing Heritage Foundation in San Clemente, 110 Calle Iglesia.
The authors of “Surf To Skate”installed an exhibit featuring over 100 vintage, old-school skateboards at Surfing Heritage. As part of the exhibit, the foundation is screening an edited version of the Oscar-nominated skateboard film “Skater Dater.”
