Returning to the Stage for the Class of ‘13
Laguna Beach High School holds its senior class benefit show, “The Shap Show” on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Math teacher Gary Shapiro and students, who are both seasoned vocalists and new-comers, will perform in “No Suits Allowed” for the community as a fundraising effort. Local restaurant Lumberyard, 384 Forest Ave., will offer pre-show dinner packages.
Long known simply as “The Shap Show” by its many fans, this community favorite has raised a cumulative total of more than $100,000 and involved at least 350 young singers since it was first staged 25 years ago.
This year’s show, February 9, at 7:30 PM, features nearly 30 songs covering contemporary and classic popular hits, each sung by a student with Shapiro accompanying them on guitar.
Regular tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. on the day of the show at the Artists’ Theatre box office. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults and $30 for dinner and show via PayPal at http://www.lbusd.org/shapshow. For more information contact Johnna Gherardini at email@example.com.
Epic Fundraising Begins
Thurston Middle School began fundraising for its Epic Challenge, which will take place during P.E. classes on Tuesday, Feb. 26 until Friday, March 1.
The Epic Challenge will be held on these three consecutive days, and will consist of 10 games for the school children.
The event is sponsored by Mission Hospital, Wilson’s Auto Group, Laguna Beach Little League, Wahoo’s and Pali’s Adventures.

Locals Make the Grade
Loyola Marymount University’s Dean’s List for last fall’s semester includes Laguna Beach students Hannah Dawe, Arielle Palmer and Dashel Pierson. These students have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Letters Signed At Mater Dei
Laguna Beach resident Gianna Geil, a student at Santa Ana’s Mater Dei High School, signed a national letters of intent last week. She committed to enroll at Princeton University and play on the women’s soccer team.
