Year of Snake Charms Club Supporters
Over 300 people attended the most successful gala in Boys & Girls Club history last month. Carrie Click and Paula Hornbuckle co-chaired the event that raised more than $500,000, which underwrites much of the club’s budget as well as new programs. These include a new clubhouse to serve South Laguna families, a new teen center for high school students and expanded lunchtime programs at public school campuses.
Guests were treated to an Asian themed affair while being entertained by Cirque du Xīnzàng performers.
A video produced by Stephanie Serna helped illustrate how the club helps families. Guests opened their hearts and pledged over $300,000 before the live auction even began. “We are grateful for our community and very proud of our partnerships which have helped us achieve and strive for new heights,” said Bill Wood, the club’s board president.
Festival Supports Arts Aid for Kids
Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts Foundation recently awarded a $1,000 grant to Art4Kids, Inc., a nonprofit that provides art materials for children in distress.
The organization donates materials to children in hospitals as well as agencies that provide services to children who are abused, poor or in mental distress.
Art4Kids, Inc.’s work includes the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, CSP Youth Shelter, La Playa Center and Even Start Preschool.
Townley Gallery Underwrites Young Artists
There were many enthusiastic winners at a recent reception for young artists at the Susi Q Senior Center’s art gallery.
In a surprise, Townley Gallery art director Shane Townley contributed $2,000 towards underwriting the “Kreative Kids” exhibition showcasing work by 74 members of Laguna Beach’s Boys and Girls Club. The show ends July 12.
The donation came from Laguna Art.com, a foundation allied with the local Townley Gallery. “We are thrilled with this amazing contribution for our arts programs here at the Susi Q,” stated Nadia Babayi, executive director of Laguna Beach Seniors. “This gift reflects the community support that is so critical to our mission.”
Winners received ribbons and Laguna Art Supply gift certificates.

Transition Laguna Makes its Own Transition
Transition Laguna received official notification of its non-profit status, which supporters anticipate will speed development of programs and community support.
Earlier this month, Transition Laguna volunteers assisted 25 Glennwood House residents and their families in installing an organic garden of fruit trees, vegetables and herbs at the soon to open facility for developmentally disabled young adults.
