All Laguna Beach pets, great and small are invited to attend the St. Francis Day blessing of the animals at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, Oct. 9, in the upper garden outdoor sanctuary. People are also welcome to bring the ashes or a picture of a beloved pet they have lost.

This is an opportunity to celebrate the life of St. Francis, meet the new priest in charge Father Lester V. Mackenzie have your pets receive a blessing at 428 Park Ave.

Girls Recruit New Scouts at Meet ‘n Greet

Girl Scouts of Laguna Beach invites girls in kindergarten through third grade to the Girl Scout House, 190 High Dr., on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for an afternoon of crafts, games, prizes and snacks.

Yom Kippur Services Set for Jewish Center 

No tickets are needed to attend Yom Kippur services at Chabad Jewish Center, which holds a Kol Nidrei service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 30804 S. Coast Highway.

A full day of worship resumes on Wednesday, Oct. 12, with services at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Stay Dry with Flood Preparation

City officials encourage downtown Laguna Beach business owners and employees to practice the installation of flood prevention devices on the last Monday in October, which this year is Oct. 24.

Property and business owners in the flood zone will receive a notice about the practice day, a voluntary emergency preparedness exercise.

 

Anita Street to Remain Closed

Anita Street at Coast Highway will be closed for four weeks due to storm drains improvements.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.

Bus Service Changes on South County Routes

Bus riders will see changes beginning Sunday, Oct. 9, as part a plan to target high-demand routes, though day pass costs will drop to $4 instead of $5.

More than a score of routes will be affected by the plan; seven routes will see improved schedule frequencies and 12 routes will be discontinued wholly or in part.

Discontinued routes include: route 82 from Foothill Ranch to Laguna Niguel will no longer run on Saturdays, route 85 from Mission Viejo to Dana Point will no longer run on Saturdays, route 87 from Rancho Santa Margarita to Laguna Nigel will no longer run on Saturdays, route 187 from Laguna Hills to Dana Point, route 188 from Laguna Hills to Irvine and route 191 from Mission Viejo to San Clemente.

Home Host Supervisors Wanted

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs seeks representatives to recruit and screen prospective families individuals to serve as hosts for visiting exchange students.

Students are 15 -18 and have passed academic and character requirements.

Representatives interview students to study abroad and supervise the exchange students in their community. Representatives are compensated based on the number of students they are supervising.
