Art Students Exhibit Their Work in Spring

Student work in the exhibition includes Colby Myer’s “Our City,” mixed media on paper and Eric Almanza’s “The Space in Between,” oil on wood.

Laguna Art Museum will host Laguna College of Art + Design’s graduate student Painting and Drawing exhibition with an opening night reception Saturday, May 5 at 6 p.m.

The exhibition will be on display in the museum’s lower level galleries, 307 Cliff Dr., though  May 27.

 

Auction Proceeds Keep Arts in Education 

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts presents “A Teaching Artists Showcase” on Sunday, May 6, 3-5:30 p.m. at Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course, a fundraising event that promises a diverse selection of fine art and a live and silent auction.

 

A full bar will feature freshly made “Locaritas” and silent auctions will include restaurant meals, entertainment, hotel getaways and fun items from local retailers.

Work by a LOCA member set to go under the gavel at fund raising auction May 6.

The art auction features 27 originals, by Roger Folk, Jacquie Moffett, Mada Leach, Anne England, Betty Haight, Sue Linder, Valerie Gorrell and many more, all LOCA instructors. Values range from $80 to $1,500.

LOCA is entering its 20th year providing arts education in local schools, the Boys & Girls Club, the Community Service Programs Youth Shelter, at the Susi Q Senior Center and other adult classes.

The Figure Takes Center Stage 

Laguna Beach’s Saltfineart gallery, 1492 S. Coast Highway, this month features “I Am You, The Figure In Latin American Art,” an exhibition that seeks to illuminate the power of the human figure through the work of Moises Barrios (Guatamala), Lucio Kansuet (Panama), Jose Rogriguez (El Salvador) and Rafael Varela (El Salvador).

These artists, all considered master painters in their own right, use the human figure as a “tap root” of emotion in compositions that vary from the hyper-realistic to the surreal.

The Pacific Art Foundation and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association host A Meet the Artists gala, juried by Jean Stern, at the Pacific Club, 4110 MacArthur Blvd.

The Artist Fund Exhibits at City Hall

The Artist Fund at Festival of Arts is exhibiting a Board of Directors show at Laguna Beach City Hall, 505 Forest Ave., now through May 22. Exhibiting board members include Anne England, Roger Folk, Mada Leach, Mia Moore, Enrica Marshall, Vinita Voogd, Geraldine Cropser and Wendy Wirth.

The Artists Fund at Festival of Arts, founded by Anne England in 2000, provides financial aid to artists suffering economic hardship due to medical necessity, disaster, or debilitating circumstances.
