Artists Welcome Visitors to Their Studios

Art enthusiasts are invited to visit local professional artists in their work spaces  on Saturday, Jan. 4, during Laguna Beach Artist Open Studios, a free event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants can also catch a free shuttle service from the ACT V parking lot, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road. The majority of the 29 artists that plan to participate work in Laguna Canyon Road studios and in a spectrum of art media.

 

Museum Begins Year With a Culture Mash-Up

Laguna Art Museum will host an array events in January including a concert with the City of Angels saxophone quartet on Thursday, Jan. 9; the Laguna Beach Film Society screening of “Llyn Foulkes: One Man Band” on Thursday, Jan. 16 where the artist and filmmakers will be in attendance; the kick-off of the museum’s new monthly art program, Kids’ Art Studio, on Sunday, Jan. 19; and talks and book signings with Mark A. Vieira and Cindy Keefer, Thursdays, Jan. 23 and 30, respectively.

The museum’s current exhibitions, “Adam Silverman: Clay and Space” and “ex.pose: Richard Kraft” close on Sunday, Jan. 19.

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts is now taking registrations for its family friendly monthly Art and Sea Lions workshops at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

Activities include a guided viewing of live sea lions, followed by a hands-on art project, taught by a professional instructor. Everyone takes home finished art.

Classes are on Saturdays, 9-10:30 a.m. starting Jan. 11. Clothing expert Reem Khalil will teach silk painting with a fish print image.

Cost is $20 for adults, and $15 for kids ages 6 and up with a paid adult. All supplies and free parking are included. Advance registration is required, visit www.LOCAarts.org and click on the calendar date. Register by email at [email protected], or call (949) 363-4700.

“Chasing Singularity,” street artist, sculptor and studio painter Zio Ziegler’s first Orange County show, opens this week at Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow Gallery, 1175 S. Coast Highway. An opening reception takes place Saturday, Jan. 4, from 6-9 p.m.

The show will include a mural painted during this month’s Art Walk as well as up to 15 studio works on canvas and paper.  “My work is not about a final product, rather the process that helps me solve a problem,” says Ziegler.
