Young artist Jade Nicoletti, fourth from right, joins her peers in creativity for the Woman’s Club one-day spring boutique.

Hand crafted original art made by local women will transform the Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach into an upscale boutique and art gallery on Sunday, April 22, from 12 to 5 p.m.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Women Artists Spring Boutique – and the creativity of hundreds of past participants – 23 diverse and engaging artists will share their handiwork and talents. For the first time, alongside accomplished  jewelry makers, knitters, painters and  photographers, three young women, each an aspiring artist attending local Laguna Beach schools, will exhibit their work.

One, Jade Nicoletti, the 10-year-old winner of the 2010 Boo Blast t-shirt art contest, will display her water colors, pencil and oil pastels, including one of a vivid sunflower set in a robin’s egg blue background. In addition to being a gifted painter and drawer, Nicoletti is a recent winner of the PTA’s Reflections Award for her singer/songwriting talents.

At the free event, skilled Sawdust artist Rosalie Marsh will offer an array of her handmade purses created from vintage fabrics and found objects, along with her mixed media paintings.

When not working as a business consultant, Austria-born photographer Ulrike Scheuchl seeks out heart shaped features in nature. Photos of those and other closely observed natural wonders, like raindrops, will be available frameless and in sleek metal frames.

With an open mind and discerning eye, Lillian Reiter uses everything from fluorite, recycled glass to shells and plastic in her jewelry. “I use whatever looks good,” Reiter said. “I don’t limit myself.”

Master knitter and psychologist Kim Salter has a new line of creations including the “Grace Jones Cowl,” fingerless gloves, leggings, scarves and hats.

With an array of contemporary and traditional pieces comprised of fabricated metal highlighted with gemstones and pearls, jeweler Liz Malloy’s extensive collection has something to capture everyone’s fancy.

Debra Covern’s table will sparkle with dangling, wire wrapped Swarovski crystal earrings and ethereal chalcedony, a translucent pale green crystal, accentuating simple but elegant lariat style necklaces.

Photographer Lynn Weiser will display her new work, including an aerial series illuminating intriguing land patterns of the Israeli desert and clouds.

Slicing ocean jasper, Michaela “MJ” Jeppson reveals a miniature landscape, including what appears to be a dragon fly in a pond, in a pendant. A master recycler,  Jeppson will also have her wine accessories: coolers made of corks and glass charms made of recycled glass.

Enhancing shoppers’ experience, pianist Pam Wicks and vocalist/songwriter, Lenelle Hamil, will play live music and wine and refreshments will be available.

Each artist will donate a silent auction item. Proceeds from the auction will go the club’s scholarship fund bestowed annually on a local student attending Laguna College of Art and Design and to the Women and Family Assistance Center, a division of the Woman’s Club that distributes holiday presents, school supplies, food and information about community resources to those in need.

Each fall and each spring, the Woman’s Club, located at 286 St. Ann’s Drive, on the corner of Glennyere and St. Ann’s, hosts this free event as a way to encourage and support local women artists.
