State Sen. Tom Harman is accepting submissions for the state Senate’s Annual Contemporary Art Collection. Each legislative session, Senators select a district artist, whose art they believe best represents the district. The artist chosen will have his or her artwork displayed in various locations at the State Capitol. Additionally, the artist will have his or her artwork included in a catalogue, which accompanies each year’s art show.

In 2007 the winner was Laguna Beach artist David Milton, whose paintings depict beach cottages at historic Crystal Cove.

Submissions must be of original works by artists that live within the 35th Senate District. All media are acceptable but must be no larger than 3 by 5 feet.

All submissions must be received at district offices by Feb. 28. Contact Emanuel Patrascu, District Office, 950 S. Coast Dr. Suite 240, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, (714) 957-4555

John Wayne Airport has also issued a call for artists countywide to apply for slots in its exhibition space in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal.

Each exhibition is approximately 30 days in duration, and is presented at no cost to the artist.

Artists approved in this screening process will begin exhibiting in August 2012. To qualify, artists need to have ties to the area. Artist applications are due by 4 p.m. on April 15.
