Monarch butterfly expert and author Susie Vanderlip describes how to lure Monarch butterflies to home gardens at a meeting of the Laguna Beach Garden Club Friday, March 13.

The 9:30 a.m. meeting is free and takes place at Laguna Beach Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave.

 

Boys and Girls Club Dedicates Newest Site

Boys & Girls Club supporters plan to cut the ribbon and dedicate their newest program site with a ceremony on Friday, March 6, in Lang Park.

The Click family, whose support in recent years helped to make the Lang Branch site a reality, will receive special recognition.

The Lang Branch is now the third site after, locations in Laguna Canyon and Bluebird Park, offering club out-of-school enrichment programs.

Conservancy Discusses Canyon Development

Laguna Canyon native Hallie Jones, who is executive director of the Laguna Canyon Foundation, will discuss proposed development in Laguna Canyon at the next Laguna Canyon Conservancy meeting on Monday, March 2.

The dinner meeting takes place at Tivoli Terrace restaurant, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner tickets are $10 for members, $15 for non-members and may be paid at the door with prior reservations.

Law Allows the Dying to Make Their Own Decisions

Guest speaker Joe Barnes explains California’s End-of-Life Option at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, to the Laguna Beach Democratic Club.

The talk takes place at the Unitarian Universal Fellowship Hall, 429 Cypress Dr.

The bill was written to ensure that a medication that can end the dying process is available to terminally ill, mentally competent Californians who request it from their doctor.

Attorney Dawn M. Knepper, a labor and employment expert, will chair a workshop about the top 10 labor and employment law pitfalls facing California businesses Thursday, March 12.

The Chamber of Commerce presentation takes place at 8 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 1085 Laguna Canyon Rd.

Filing Period for Environmental Sustainability Committee Extended

The Environmental Sustainability Committee, a seven-member advisory body to the City Council, is still accepting applications from Laguna Beach residents.

All applicants will be interviewed by the City Council at their regular 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday, March 17, in council chambers at 505 Forest Avenue.

Four residents will be selected for this committee. Applications are available online at www.lagunabeachcity.net or in the City Clerk’s office and must be filed by 5 p.m. on March 6.

The third Camp Shred, a weekend of camping, surfing and demoing the latest surf gear, comes to San Elijo Campground in Cardiff By the Sea from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8, and is free to the public.

Try out gear by more than 15 brands at the festival-like campground, which will feature entertainment, food trucks and a beer garden whose proceeds benefit California State Parks, specifically the Friends of Cardiff and Carlsbad State Beaches.
