Breakers opened the 34th annual Newport Elks Tournament last Thursday, March 3, as Troy rallied to edge Laguna 3-1 in a game played at the Warrior campus. Troy (4-0, ranked eighth in Division 4) only had six hits, but were able to scratch out two runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Connor Basile went three for three in hitting while Zak Kovacic had two hits. Breaker’s troubles continued on Saturday, March 5, as Beckman (4-0) edged Laguna 5-4 in a game played at the Patriot’s field.

Laguna’s game with Trabuco Hills was rained out on Monday, March 7, and rescheduled for Wednesday, March 9. Tournament play concludes this weekend. The 15-game league season begins on March 15 when Laguna hosts Estancia at Skipper Carrillo Field.
