Breakers broke open a scoreless game on their way to a 20-0 rout of the visiting Colton Yellowjackets (15-12) last Friday afternoon at Skipper Carrillo Field. The victory sent Laguna this past Tuesday, May 26, to Apple Valley to face a tough Granite Hills (17-7) squad from the Desert Sky League (Barstow, Silverado, Victor Valley, Adelanto).

In the second inning, Laguna sent 17 batters to the plate, scoring 11 runs on 11 singles.

Against Colton, freshman standout Blake Burzell (6-3) pitched four innings and allowed two hits to earn the win. In relief, John Ogden pitched one inning, striking out two. Anthony Norelli retired the side in the sixth inning while Zak Kovacic and Ashton Goddard completed the seventh. Breakers had 10 different players collect hits with three each from Cal Cochran, Cole Coscino and Dante Faicchio; and four runs batted in by Zal Kovacic and Cole Coscino.

Up next:

If Laguna survives the trip to the high desert, quarterfinals will be held on Friday, May 29, against Troy or South Torrance. Semifinals will be Tuesday, June 2. This is Laguna’s seventh straight trip to the playoffs and the program’s 11th since first making the post season in 1952. Breakers lost to last year’s Division 4 champion Torrance 4-3 in the semifinals.
