Boys Basketball (21-6, 9-1) League Champions

Laguna was seeded seventh in the 4AA playoffs that opened this past week. This season Bret Fleming’s squad captured their ninth league title in the past 10 years and the program’s 15th overall in 82 seasons of play. Breakers are 36-28 in 31 previous post-season tournaments and are hoping to match 2014 with at-least a quarterfinal appearance. Laguna has made it to the finals four times, last in 1989 when Fleming was the assistant coach. Southern Section CIF titles were earned in 1952 and 1962.

Last week the Breakers celebrated senior night rolling past Calvary Chapel 65-42 in the final regular season contest held at Dugger Gym. Spencer Wong capped his Laguna career with three long-range three-point shots, pushing the Breaker team total to 158 for the season. That only trails the 1991 team that scored 167 in 28 games. Darin Richardson had one three-point basket putting him eighth on the single season honor roll with 58 for 2016.

Girls Basketball (19-7, 9-1) League Co-Champions

Laguna was seeded 14th in Division 4AA playoffs that opened this past Thursday, Feb. 18. Laguna hosted La Puente (9-14) with the winner playing on Saturday, Feb. 20, either in Laguna or at La Reina in Thousand Oaks.

Breakers are 3-9 in their previous nine post-season section tournaments and have advanced to the second round on three different occasions. A win this past Wednesday would be a school-record season victory for the Breakers.

Last week, Laguna closed out their regular season with a crushing 53-28 win over Calvary Chapel in a contest played on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in Dugger Gym. Jackie Cenan continued to pile on the points scoring 27 to extend her school career scoring record while Alexandra Lewis added to her three-point shot school records with five long rangers.
