The Big Picture

Editor,

Laguna Beach has no citywide water recycling system.  With ocean diesel power requirements to extract, filter and re-distribute seawater, we will likely have the highest energy per capita use for water management in the state if not the country.

Stormwater cisterns located under parks, parking lots and streets throughout our steep terrain can capture millions of gallons of rainwater at higher elevations to take advantage of gravity in saving pumping costs.

Water managers need new ideas and a big push to get up-to-date on stormwater management. Laguna presently directs all stormwater to inadvertently flood downtown businesses.

Smart water management comes from smart people. Please get involved.

Let’s wise up in 2012.
