Dance Season Starts Early
In celebration of National Dance Day, July 25, two free performances fusing contemporary, hip-hop, and modern dance by Irvine-based Entity Contemporary Dance Company, will take place at the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. on Sunday, July 26 at 2 and 3 p.m.
Is It Art or Something Else
Is belly dancing an art form or just a naughty dance? Jheri St. James, local belly dancer, teacher and troupe leader, says it fulfills as many of the definitions of art as ballet, tap, modern and folk dancing.
The Sawdust Festival will feature JJ & the Habibis Laguna Beach Belly Dancers on Saturdays, July 25 and Aug. 15, a tradition since 1987. Show times are 6:30 and 7:30 on the main entertainment deck, with a parade around the grounds at 8.
