Members enjoy the club atmosphere in an ocean-view, public park.

In celebration of their 80th anniversary, the Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club invites the public to join them for “Saturday on the Green,” a day of free lessons and a party-like atmosphere, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at their lawn in Heisler Park, 455 Cliff Drive.

Singles, couples and families are all welcome. The only stipulation is that participants wear flat-soled shoes. It’s an opportunity to find out more about a sport that everyone can play and that is easy to learn, but difficult to master. And you can’t beat the view.

In the past two years, the LBLBC has grown from about 150 members to close to 194, and many of the new members are in their 30s and 40s.

Lawn bowlers from Southern California are consistently part of Team USA, which represents the country in tournaments around the world. The Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Clubs are the only two clubs in the United States that host an internationally sanctioned tournament each year, held in October.
