Jakob Colliday scored three goals in just over two minutes at the start of the game Saturday, Oct. 17 with Los Alamitos and the Griffins never really recovered, losing 11-6. The visitor’s star player, Adam Lott tried to get them back in the game with two quick goals in the final seconds of the first half.

Jeff Rubino scored off a pass from Judge Washer early in the third period to make it 8-4 while Colliday’s play (six steals, five goals) and tough goal keeping by Gordon Pike (11 saves) frustrated the visitors all day.

The two teams are 3-3 in games played since 2000 with Laguna holding the recent wins. Also last week, Laguna pounded Estancia 22-6 in a league game at the Laguna pool with Jeff Rubino scoring seven goals. Colliday added three goals, five assists, and five steals. It was 10-1 after the initial period with Laguna using 15 different players in the match. Breakers have now won 48 straight league matches.

Montebello played this past Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Laguna for a rematch of last year’s CIF finals. Laguna traveled to Atherton for the annual North-South Challenge Oct. 23-24. Breakers faced host Sacred Heart Prep on Friday and will see either Loyola or Davis in the evening game.
