Capistrano Valley 9, Laguna 8

Sebastian Jacob’s score with 23 seconds remaining appeared to send Laguna into overtime in their D-III semifinal contest last Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Woollett Center in Irvine. Cougars, though, were able to fire one last desperation shot that provided the winning goal with four seconds on the clock, stunning the Breakers.

The Capo Valley victory was their first over Laguna since 1993 and snapped Laguna’s 14-game, Division 3 playoff win-streak.

Jakob Colliday concluded his career with three goals to lead Laguna while Gordon Pike provided 11 saves in the tight hotly contested match. Also scoring single goals for Laguna were Camden Benson, Julian Bridy, and Jeff Rubino. Jacobs, a sophomore, had two goals and a team high four steals.

Breakers still had a great season capturing their 10th straight league title and advancing to the post-season semifinals for the eighth consecutive year.
