Breakers Close in on Title

Girls Soccer (9-6-4, 7-2-0)

Renee Thomas scored in the 36th minute off a long pass by Alyssa Pellow to give the Breakers a first half lead this past Monday at Godinez. After the Grizzlies tied the match at the 50 minute mark, Audrey Pillsbury drilled the winning goal at the 60th minute and the Breakers controlled the tempo in the final 20 minutes to preserve their fifth straight league victory,

The defending league champs Girls Soccer team picked up a pair of 1-0 wins last week defeating Estancia and Saddleback and faced Calvary Chapel (7-1-1, 17-4-2) this past Wednesday in the final regular season contest with the Orange Coast League title on the line. A win would give Bill Rolfing’s squad their third title in the past four seasons.

Bruce Knill’s goal in the opening minute of the Wednesday, Feb. 4, match held as the Breakers edged Estancia 1-0. The squad followed up the victory with 0-0 tie with Saddleback on Friday, Feb. 6, and are still in second place as the league race entered the final week. Breakers could end up anywhere from second to fourth with only the top three league teams going to post-season play.
