The Newport Beach Breakers, who have a new home and name in 2012, are bringing back a fan favorite with the selection of Laguna Beach’s Lindsay Davenport in the World Team Tennis’ marquee player draft this week.

Davenport, who was part of the original Breakers squad in 2003, returns to WTT competition after winning female MVP honors in 2010. She did not play last year due to pregnancy.

“I am excited to be back in Orange County and it will be great for my kids to get to see me play,” said Davenport in a statement.

Davenport is expected to play in the team’s seven home matches for the newly named Orange County Breakers at UC Irvine’s Bren Events Center and limited road matches. The Breakers are expected to announce their home schedule in early March and the remainder of the lineup selected on March 13. The regular season starts July 9 and runs through July 29. .

“Lindsay is a fan favorite and she is one of the best players ever in the WTT format,” said Breakers General Manager Kerry Schneider.  “Our focus is on putting together a championship caliber team and Lindsay is an important first step to reaching that goal.”

Tickets for the 2012 season go on sale in mid-March.  For more information, contact the Breakers office at 949-205-9526 or visit www.breakerstennis.com.
