Breakers Extend League Win Streak to 36

Laguna opened their Orange Coast League campaign with a pair of big wins to extend their league win streak to 36 consecutive games dating back to 2012. The run is the eighth longest in SS-CIF history and nine games from the all-time Orange County record held by La Quinta.

Laguna 15, Costa Mesa 1

Laguna’s 78th league season opened with a rout of Costa Mesa last Friday, March 20, at Costa Mesa High School.

Will McInerny (4 innings), Blake Burzell (1 inning), Zak Kovacic (1 inning) and Ashton Goddard (2 inning) provided the pitching, limiting the Mustangs to five hits. Six different Laguna players had two hits with the big day going to freshman Jeff Bruyntjens who went two for three with four runs batted in. Laguna now leads the series 53-46 including the last thirteen meetings.

Laguna 14, Saddleback 0

Dante Faicchio had two doubles, scored three runs and had two RBI’s to lead the Breakers this past Tuesday, March 24, at Skipper Carrillo Field. Ashton Goddard pitched four innings along with John Ogden (1 inning) and Cole Coscino (two innings) to preserve the shutout. Laguna scored six runs in the first inning thanks in part to key hits by Faicchio and Alex Baker. The Roadrunners only managed four hits for the game.
