Breakers Fall To Newport in Three

Fifth-ranked Laguna Beach High School could not close their leads against seventh-ranked Newport Harbor and dropped their annual match 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 this past Tuesday at Dugger Gym.

Breakers had leads late in the first two sets but could not close out the Sailors for the win. Alyse Ford led Laguna with 17 kills while Sevana Dvorak added 26 assists, seven digs and solid serving.

Last Saturday, Sept. 8, Laguna defeated Santiago/Corona 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 at Dugger Gym experiencing similar issues. Laguna had leads of 21-13 in set one, 23-19 in set two, and 23-15 in set three before struggling to close out each win. Ford had 27 kills and 11 digs against the Sharks with Dvorak adding 38 assists, four aces, and a number of long serving runs. Sabrina Stillwell added seven kills.

Breakers resume action Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Corona del Mar then participate in the 16-team Mohs Orange County Tournament with the other top county teams.
