Breaker Season Ends as Crusaders Rally in Semifinals.

Laguna traveled to Sun Valley in the San Fernando Valley Tuesday, Nov. 17 to face top seed Village Christian Crusaders in the D-2 AA semifinals match. After a slow start losing set one 25-23, Breakers controlled the tempo winning the next two sets 25-19, 25-21. Down 6-4 in the fourth, Laguna went to a 6-2 offense scheme, hoping for a spark. The move didn’t click and the squad was out-scored 9-2. Returning to the 5-1 lineup, the Breakers rallied to tie the set at 23 but could not close it out, losing 25-23 and forcing a fifth game. Breakers rallied in that one with a number of late tie scores before losing the set and match 15-13.

For the day, Jamie Robbins led all players with 14 kills, two aces and 10 digs. Sage Patchell added 12 kills, four aces, and eight digs while Katelyn Carballo also had 12 kills and 17 digs. Lexi McKeown made five blocks while Aspen Rocha dished out 34 assists. Kendyl Brennen and Katie Hayden had their best outing on serve receive and Brennan added 15 digs.

All-league and team awards will be announced in early December.
