Girls Water Polo (1-0)
Varsity shutout Edison 21-0 this past Tuesday, Dec. 13, hosting Edison at the Laguna pool and will face Division 1 No. 8 Los Alamitos on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Santa Ana Valley High School.
Laguna was off last week and with Coach Damato, Aria Fischer, and goalie Thea Walsh in New Zealand for the Youth Women’s World Championships. The USA team opened play on Monday, Dec. 12, with a 26-10 win over Japan with Aria Fischer scoring six goals. The following day, the squad rallied to tie Greece 10-10 with Aria scoring a team high four goals. The team concluded pool play with an easy win over China before the playoffs – video replays and results can be found at the USA Water Polo website – usawaterpolo.org. Last week in preparation for the tournament, the USA squad defeated Hungary, Australia, and Germany in a tune up held in Canberra, Australia on Dec. 5-7.
This past weekend, the JV squad finished second in the Irvine Varsity El Nino Cup falling 10-4 to La Jolla varsity for the third straight year. Laguna defeated Division 3 No. 7 Irvine 16-3, Sonora 12-1, and Division 2 No. 10 Arroyo Grande 9-7 en route to the finals. Bryn Gioffredi led all Laguna players with eight goals, while Cici Stewart and Morgan Van Alphen each had seven scores. Quinn Winter was the team goal keeper.
