Equal Pay For Women Day Is April 14

The American Association of University Women, Laguna Beach chapter offered their first Smart Start workshop to a class of graduating registered dental assistants from Orange Coast College in 2014.

The workshops teach women how to negotiate for salaries, prepare for job interviews, and calculate their budgetary needs.

In recognition of Equal Pay Day, April 14, the Laguna chapter is offering to host additional workshops. Contact AAUW Laguna Beach if you would like to support Start Smart workshops or help close the gender wage gap yourself by encouraging a woman you know to negotiate for the salary she should earn.

Police Tap Dog Walkers as Crime Fighters

Laguna Beach police invite local dog owners to join a new crime prevention initiative, Dog Walker Watch, by attending a noon kick off meeting and training session with their pets in Alta Laguna Park Saturday, May 2.

Dog Walker Watch is intended to encourage recreational dog walkers to serve as an extra set of eyes and ears since they know their routes well and can easily discern what is out of place.
