Nothing and no one is safe from comedic barbs in “Lagunatics,” a tribute to Laguna Beach through a musical parody revue that opens for four weekends beginning Friday, Oct. 7. “Yuge!” features great Broadway tunes and pop songs with lyrics that celebrate and skewer the town and its lifestyle.
Directed by Bree Burgess Rosen and choreographed by Paul Nygro, the cast will go after city government, pot dispensaries, Pokémon, tourists, public art, water conservation … and, of course, goats. This year’s script is written by Rosen, Chris Quilter, Bridget English, Paul Nygro, and Rebecca Lyles. Music direction is by Roxanna Ward and costumes by Brigitte Harper.
“Lagunatics” appears in the 86-seat No Square Theatre in Legion Hall, 384 Legion St. Because of the small venue, the cast is smaller than in any year past, but will include a changing line-up of narrators through the run of weekend performances through Oct. 30.
The cast features Eric T. Anderson, Yvonne Browning, Bree Burgess, Rufino Cabang, Bridget English, Rob Harryman, Chloe Lovato, Marc Marger, Kristen Matson, Patrick Quilter, and Jay Rechter, with music by Roxanna Ward and David Aguiar.
Opening and closing nights include a dinner party, special events and silent auctions. Dinner and drinks are available al fresco for purchase at 6 p.m. before each 7:30 p.m. performance. The Oct. 30 show starts at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 to $120 online at nosquare.org. If available, tickets may be sold at the door for an additional fee.
