Do Your Part Keeping Beaches Trash Free

Residents are invited to participate in two clean-up events: local realtor Chris Tebbutt teamed up with James Pribram, founder of the Eco-Warrior Foundation, to sponsor a community beach cleanup at Thousand Steps Beach from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday Aug. 27.

Enjoy breakfast, music and prizes and get a free t- shirt while removing litter along the rocky coves below South Coast Highway and Ninth Street.

A regional coastal cleanup day, Saturday, Sept. 17, includes a post celebration with booths and food trucks at Huntington State Beach. Proceeds will help Coastkeeper and and Huntington State Beaches.

To achieve a zero-waste event, volunteers should bring their own cleanup supplies including a bucket or reusable bag, gloves and reusable water bottle.

Register for the later event at www.coastkeeper.org/ccd.

Dance Festival Fund Aims for Growth

The Laguna Beach Community Foundation provides investment services for Laguna Dance Festival’s newly opened reserve fund.

Establishing the fund signifies the organization’s growth and community support, said Joy Dittberner, the festival’s executive director. “Our goal is to continue growing our reserve fund, enabling LDF to offer educational scholarships to aspiring Southern California dancers and choreographers,” she said in a statement.

Dan Pingaro, the foundation’s executive director, said “these are the kinds of partnerships that strengthen our community.”

The festival’s annual concert series is set for Sept. 22-25.
