Choose Sides for Super Bowl

Laguna Beach police urge football fans to take sides this Sunday whether they are Seahawk or Patriot fans and decide whether to drink or drive.

Police will be deploying on Sunday, Feb. 1, to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers.

“Drunk driving is completely preventable,” said Lt. Jeff Calvert. “All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it’s a choice. Drink or drive, but never do both.”

For those who plan to drink, leave your keys at home. Designate a friend as a sober driver or use public transportation, Calvert said.

Firefighters Contain Deck Blaze

Six people fled a home on Rockledge Road about 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 when fire erupted on an outdoor deck, fire officials said.

A portion of Coast Highway was closed as four engines were deployed to battle the accidental blaze, probably caused by electrical wiring, Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.

Firefighters had difficulty accessing the burning deck of the three-level, 16,000 square foot house, which was undamaged by the blaze, he said.
