Master Dance Class Offered
Intermediate and advanced dancers aged 12 and up are invited to attend a master class with USC dance professor and Broadway dancer Saleemah E. Knight and Laguna Dance Festival founding artistic director Jodie Gates from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.
The class takes place at the Laguna Beach High School dance
studio.
After Knight’s master class, Gates, vice dean of USC’s dance school, will teach contemporary repertory followed by a coaching session on how to succeed in auditions and competitions.

Local Educator Writes About Gifted Students
Local Dr. Jenny Rankin’s new book, “Engaging and Challenging Gifted Students: Tips for Supporting Extraordinary Minds in Your Classroom,” was recently released.
Rankin, who discussed the book’s concepts with Laguna Beach school district teachers, is scheduled to make another parent presentation March 9 at Thurston Middle School.
Rankin volunteers as the assistant coordinator of Mensa’s gifted youth program.
Her work was released by the education publisher Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Local Campus Hosts Science Camp for Girls
A six-week summer science academy for girls ages 4 to 12 is being organized for June through August at six colleges, including Concordia University in Irvine, by a nonprofit, Project Scientist, based in Laguna Beach.
Curriculum led by credentialed educators will include hands-on experiments and field trips, says a statement from Project Scientist, founded in 2011 by resident Sandy Marshall.
