TheatreReach: Bringing Books to Life!, Orange County’s longest running, literature and curriculum-based, professional theatre touring program, will visit fourth grade classrooms in 41 Orange County schools this spring.

In March and April, “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White and “By The Great Horn Spoon!,” a children’s classic about the California Gold Rush, brings core curriculum books to life in hour-long, one-act plays, said Donna Inglima, director of youth education programs at Laguna Playhouse.

TheatreReach, which uses professional actors, sets, costumes, props and sound equipment, also provides children an early exposure to live theatre, she said.

An extensive “Study and Activities Guide” is sent to teachers prior to each performance.

Date Night for Parents and Teens Continues

Mission Hospital has partnered with Dale Carnegie Training to bring Orange County teen experts to “Date Night: An Evening with the Important Young Person in Your Life,” a three-part series of weekly conversations for parents and their teens.

The Thursday evening sessions start April 27 in the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, 25925 Camino Del Avion. Covered topics will include how to be confident in your communication, win friends and influence peers, effectively disagree, and manage stress in a healthy way. The sessions are interactive and participants will gain valuable skills that they can put into practice, says an announcement. “In our world of booked calendars, social media and screens, it’s not only harder than ever to be a teen, but also the parent of one,” Marcy Mednick, a Mission Hospital spokesman, said in the statement.

The $45 cost for an adult and child aged 11-15 includes dinner. An additional series will be offered in Laguna Beach on Wednesday evenings beginning May 10.
