High school athletes can take advantage of a screening test to detect risk for sudden cardiac arrest Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laguna Beach High School North Gym during Breakfast With the Breakers Community Day.

Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, a local non-profit focused on detecting risk for sudden cardiac arrest, offers the echocardiogram and electrocardiogram screening for $85 per person. There will also be CPR demonstrations.

The relevancy of screening was made real when LBHS freshman Sam Tyrrell suffered cardiac arrest while in Spanish class in March. His teacher’s swift actions contributed to his recovery.
