Jason Zide Is Rotary’s Student of the Month

Jason Zide

Laguna Beach High School senior Jason Zide was honored recently as the high school Student of the Month by the Laguna Beach Rotary Club. He was accompanied by his science instructor, Jen Merritt.

In addition to his academic skills, Zide has demonstrated leadership as the vice president and co-founder of the high school’s revived Safe Rides program. He plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering as an entrée into the automotive industry.

Resource Fair for Special Education Needs

The Irvine, Saddleback Valley, and Laguna Beach Community Advisory Committees for Special Education will host the OC Families Resource Fair from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the Irvine High School Main Gym, 4321 Walnut Avenue in Irvine.

“We are all aware of the importance of providing parents with the knowledge needed to successfully advocate for their child,” said LBUSD director of special education/student services Irene White.

Resource information will be available at the event in such areas as: recreation, therapy, social skills, medical help, community resources, adult transition, advocacy, and specialty retail. For more information, check the website at www.EmpoweringIrvine.org.

Thurston’s PTA Raises Over $7,000

The “Out on the Town” annual fundraiser held last week by the Thurston Middle School PTA raised over $7,000.

The event sold out to 130 parents and teachers who enjoyed an evening of progressive dining in downtown Laguna.

The event’s success is attributed to the generosity of parent sponsors, business sponsors, attendees and six local restaurant sponsors, including Romeo Cucina, the Lumberyard, Nick’s Laguna, Nirvana Grille, Sundried Tomato Café, Zinc Cafe and Tommy Bahama’s.

Library Offers College Test Prep

The Laguna Beach Library and Kaplan Test Prep are offering local students an opportunity to figure out which college-entrance exam plays to their strengths by presenting a free SAT/ACT practice test, Saturday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 363 Glenneyre St.

Get your scores and free test-taking tips when you return Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m.
