Suds Up to Aid Orphans

Coast Highway dust? Last year’s CLC car wash took care of that.

Students at the Community Learning Center at Top of the World School will hold their fifth annual car wash and bake sale to benefit children at the Door of Faith Orphanage near Rosarito, Mexico, on Saturday, May 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The event will take place in the school district parking lot at 550 Blumont St.

The cost is $10 per car; $15 for large vehicles. Advance tickets are available and will be sold by CLC families.  For those who wish to donate but cannot come on Saturday, online credit card donations will be accepted at www.lbclc.org (click on “Donate”). Every dollar will be sent to Door of Faith, which CLC has supported for 17 years.

Because of turmoil in Mexico, many volunteer groups that previously arrived with donations have canceled visits to the orphanage in La Mision Valley. Door of Faith feeds, houses, clothes and educates more than 100 children and babies and is completely dependent on charity.

“The costs of running the orphanage are substantial,” said Pieter Wolters, a CLC parent. “It’s a CLC spring tradition to share our bounty and create a connection between children on opposite sides of the border. We decided it’s more important than ever to continue this tradition.”
