Student Ceramicists Earn Recognition

Laguna Beach eighth-grader Michael Tanaka was recognized at a national   ceramic exhibition in Wisconsin in March alongside three other Orange County youngsters, all students of Festival of Arts’ workshops.

Festival of Arts ceramic instructor Monica Dunham was selected to receive a teacher award that honors the late American ceramicist Daniel Rhodes.

The arts group is enrolling its summer classes for children ages 5-12, running July 7 – Aug. 29, Monday- Friday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

In addition to ceramics, painting, printmaking and jewelry classes are offered. Info: LagunaFestivalofArts.org or 949-464-4234.

Top of the World students celebrated Screen Free Week May 5 – 9, where  families, schools and communities turn off digital entertainment for seven days.

The week kicked off with family board game and pizza night at the Laguna Beach Library and closed with a bonfire at Aliso Creek Beach.
