Rotary Names Science Student of the Month

Rotary Club named Nicholas Rieckhoff the February student of the month in the Laguna Beach High School science department.

Nicholas also served as a Boys State Delegate, is an AP scholar with distinction and has twice been silver medalist in Junior National Championship Boys Volleyball.

He is active in varsity athletics, mixed martial arts and debating. Nicholas, whose family has military ties, plans a career in government after military service and a university education.

 

Teaching Teens Civility

Rosalind Wiseman, best-selling author of “Queen Bees & Wannabes,” will discuss how social group dynamics influence interactions between adolescents at the next Laguna Beach PTA Coffee Break, Wednesday, March 18.

The 6:30 p.m. presentation will take place at the LBHS’s Artists’ Theatre. There is a $10 fee.

Wiseman promises step-by-step advice on how to teach young people to treat each other with dignity. She will provide common-sense suggestions about how to deal with the frequent struggles between teens and their parents. She will also discuss technology’s influence on teens and tell parents how to help teens navigate cliques, gossip, bullying, crushes and relationships. The lecture will include concrete strategies for any parent, educator, or professional who works with children and teens.

School Readiness Workshop Set for Library

Parents of preschoolers are invited to a free “Parent and Me” story time at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the public library, 363 Glenneyre St.

While children are involved with a craft, an 11 a.m. parent workshop will focus on language development and recognizing teachable moments to promote verbal expression.
