Teacher Attends Conference of Status of Women

Laguna Beach High School French teacher Odile Dewar was selected to attend the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, at the United Nations in New York last month.

Dewar, an active member in the United Nations Foundation’s San Diego chapter, said she was inspired by meeting women with diverse backgrounds, cultures and languages united by efforts to improve the lives of women.

She hopes to use her experience to enrich her class curriculum and hopes to pursue internships for Model UN students, she said in a statement.

 

 

 

 

Civic Activism Starts Early for Food Drive Leaders

Fifth-grade Top of the World students will hold a food drive at local Laguna Beach markets on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3.

Expect to see them from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ralph’s, Pavilions, Whole Foods and Haggen either day, says parent Stacey Johnson. She asks that shoppers pick up a few extra items to be donated to the Laguna Food Pantry.

 

Laguna Local Makes the Dean’s List

Madeline Knutson a sophomore at Northeastern University, in Boston, achieved the Dean’s List for the fall 2014 semester.

She is a 2013 Laguna Beach High School graduate.
