Rotary Spotlights Two Students

The Laguna Beach Rotary Club honored Malia Helms and Drake Butler as Laguna Beach High School scholar athletes.

Malia received awards for sportsmanship in varsity tennis and math. She plans to attend UC Davis and major in bio-engineering while competing in track and field.

Drake received awards in physics and jazz band. He competes in track and cross country, plays in the wind ensemble and marching band. Drake plans on attending Chapman University and studying business administration while continuing to participate in track.

Free ESL Class Begins

Adults interested in learning English can enroll in free classes that started this week offered through the school district.

Classes are offered for six weeks Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in class and online. Classes will be taught in room 91 located above the high school tennis courts and swimming pool.

All levels of English language proficiency are welcome to attend. The public can register by dropping in during regular class hours or by contacting Donna Todd at 949 497-7700, ext. 5210.

 

Local Recognized for Academic Achievement

Laguna Beach resident Olivia Morrison has qualified for the dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
