LBHS Hosts College Financial Aid Workshop

The high school will host a financial aid workshop at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the campus library.

Speakers will review student loans, repayment information and the most common mistakes made in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA.

Many FAFSA applications have errors and make students ineligible, said Lynn Gregory, an LBHS scholarship and financial aid specialist. She recommends families of junior and senior students attend.

Questions: contact Gregory at [email protected].

The members of Ten Boys Who Care, in their fourth year of fund raising for a Laguna Beach High School sportsmanship scholarship, inspired teens in Minnesota to pursue a cause of their own.

In April, they established Teens Who Care in Apple Valley, Minn., and focus on community service. Their 19 members have already put in 100 hours of volunteer time on projects that include identifying sewer drains with stencils, park clean-ups and food packing as well as adopting a street in their town, says a Ten Boys Who Care statement.

Minnesota mother Joanne Heinrich, who learned of the teen philanthropy through social media, helped her kids start a similar project, the statement says.

Laguna’s Ten Boys Who Care award $2,500 each year to two seniors who best describe how an embarrassing or memorable moment made them a better sport.
