“I had no idea that one day I myself would need their services,” said longtime local resident Lysanne Lippe, a former Laguna Beach Community Clinic volunteer. “But when I needed medical help, I knew where to go. And thankfully I did, because the clinic saved my life,” Lippe said in a statement by the clinic.

She is one of 2,400 women who sought medical help at the clinic, which this year experienced deeper cuts to government funding sources.

As a result, the clinic’s board pooled their gifts to offer a $20,000 matching grant, which was met within days. Consequently, the Dover Family Foundation, established by the parents of Carolyn Dover Bent, wife of clinic director, Tom Bent, was inspired to offer a $25,000 matching grant, which was also quickly matched by local supporters.

Other contributors include the Laguna Beach Woman’s Club. Member Lynn Weiser described the clinic as an invaluable resource.

“Research shows that at the family level, women are, the majority of the time, the nucleus of the family and the decision makers when it comes to health matters. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that when women are healthy, our entire community is healthier,” says Adriana Nieto-Sayegh, the nurse who runs the clinic’s women’s health programs and has served as a clinical director for 18 years.
