The Woman’s Club hosts its lunch for former Mayor Kelly Boyd on March 21 at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available for $30 and are available at wclb.org.

Boyd, who previously organized his own golf tournament to raise funds for the high school’s golf teams, asked that proceeds from the event benefit the school sport.

While Boyd underwent cancer treatments and a stem-cell transplant in recent months, he told Woman’s Club president Ellie Ortiz he will seek re-election in November. “As long as my health stays as it is now, I am planning on running.  I really enjoy working for the citizens of Laguna Beach.  I am a fourth generation Lagunian and I’m proud to serve the community that I love.”

Thurston Middle School was named for Boyd’s grandmother, Marie Thurston, who taught in the Laguna schools and became principal of Laguna Beach Grade School in 1913.

“I’m happy to be part of the event to honor Kelly.  He has been through so much with his illness and has given so much to this community,” said Ortiz, whose event team includes Sabrina Solesbee, Sima Jafarinia, Carol Reynolds and Stephany Skenderian.
