Resisting social pressure and having fun with friends without using alcohol or drugs are lifestyle choices enthusiastically embraced by Laguna Beach High School Catalyst Club students, says a district announcement.

The Catalyst Club, first established in 2009, evolved from school-based evening activities for students wanting a sober activity with classmates.

Catalyst Club students Evan Barker, Eduardo Barraza, Bobby Briggs and Mason Pitz also recognize that their personal commitment to stay sober has not diminished their ability to have fun with their friends.

About 55 students recently joined a club bowling outing. Up next? An evening of laser tag.

Prior to spring break, club members put up a pledge wall during lunch for students who wanted to commit to making healthy and safe decisions during their time off from school.

When school resumes, LBHS will host a 6:30 p.m. program for parents, “Navigating the Teen Years: Social Pressures, Issues and Underage Drinking,” Thursday, April 30.
