Classics Roll in for Rotary’s Car Show

Over 160 cars vie for awards in 28 categories at the Rotary Club’s annual Laguna Beach Classic Car Show, which is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6.

Refreshments include custom-made breakfast burritos and four food trucks for lunch, along with beer, wine and Bloody Mary’s between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd.

Participants can enter a raffle, which includes prize items such as cash, original art, and an overnight stay at the Montage resort.

Admission is $10 per adult, $3 for children under 12; kids in strollers are admitted free, as are active duty military personnel with I.D.

 

Learning How to Live With Mental Illness

Laguna Presbyterian Church will host a hour-long seminar on coping with mental health issues on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m., 415 Forest Avenue.

Guest speaker Linda Molina, a veteran clinical social worker who has worked in in-patient hospitals and outpatient settings and supervised various crisis services.

She will cover the symptoms of depression and anxiety and discuss treatment and resource options.

 

‘My Secret Garden’ Opens its Door

My Secret Garden, a new Laguna Beach boutique, offers plant arrangements in varying containers of metal, ceramic, wood, glass and even vintage trucks and shoes.

The store opened by Nevine Moussa is located next to The Cliff restaurant at 577 S. Coast Highway and offers custom made gardens, indoor and outdoor décor, landscapes, little terrariums, and more.

Learning State Labor Laws

Merchants are invited to a Chamber of Commerce sponsored workshop about compliance with state employment laws at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at

Susi Q Community Center, 380 Third St.

Dawn Knepper, a labor and employment lawyer and Laguna Beach resident, leads the talk. She suggests bringing along in-house employment forms

Fire Stations Open for Tours

Laguna Beach’s Fire Department will be hosting its annual Station Tour Day on Saturday, Oct. 12. The four city fire stations will be open during the day from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Meet the local firefighters, view the fire engines and tour the stations. Ask questions, and learn how to keep yourself and your family fire safe this year.

 

Workshop Invites Comment on Landscape and Scenic Highways

Laguna Beach, which hosted a public forum about the landscape and scenic highways element of its general plan this week, invites public comment at a workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers

Topics include sustainability, geology, habitat management, fire safety, art history, urban design and more.

Playhouse Receives Ebell’s Support

Leslie Ann Mogul and Donna Inglima, the Laguna Playhouse’s development director and youth theater director, respectively, thanked Ebell Club members for their support for youth theater at a meeting last month.

Aliso Lawyers Paddle Out for Mauli Ola

Kushner Carlson Law Firm, of Aliso Viejo, along with the Association of Surfing Lawyers, is hosting a charity event on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m. that benefits Laguna Beach’s Mauli Ola Foundation, founded by professional surfers who introduce children with cystic fibrosis to surfing as a natural treatment.

There is no cost to attend the event at 15 Enterprise, Suite 110, Aliso Viejo, though guests are invited to donate beach accessories for use at Mauli Ola events or financial contributions. There will be beverages, appetizers and live music.
