HIP District Happenings

Things are hopping in the HIP (Historic and Interesting Places) District, which boasts more than 100 stores including fashion boutiques, restaurants, galleries and hotels along S. Coast Hwy. between Thalia Street and Bluebird Canyon.

Among the highlights this month, Artist Eye Gallery features Emmy Award winning animator Paul Cheng and also displays a diverse collection of works by 17 Southern California artists; to help get in shape for the holidays Essence of Health is offering specials on nutrition and fitness programs through Nov. 30; and Laguna Sapphire, Laguna Pantry, Gina’s and Subway are all offering great deals to cater your special holiday events.

 

South Laguna Garden Fest

The South Laguna Community Garden Park hosts its Fall Festival from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. The public is invited to enjoy live music by Dogpatch Garden Band and a potluck. To facilitate the goal of zero trash guests are asked to bring their own utensils and dinnerware. Gardening and setup for the festival will be Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. The garden is located at Eagle Rock Way and S. Coast Hwy. On Dec. 14 the park will host a holiday sing-along from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

 

 

 

Holiday Grief Support

Since holidays can be difficult after the los of a loved one, the Laguna Presbyterian Church’s grief team, including licensed therapist Jackie Pearson, hosts a free support group from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, in the parlor at Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave. All are welcome. No registration required.

 

Support for Prospective Businesses

City of Laguna Beach will host the next “Open for Business” workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Laguna Beach Community Center, 380 Third St. Workshop participants include Planning Commissioners Robert Zur Schmiede and Anne Johnson, Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristine Thalman, and Principal Planner Monica Tuchscher. The workshop is held for prospective business owners who are seeking information before initiating a formal application to start a business in Laguna Beach.

The Laguna Beach Business Club concludes its 2013 Small Business Speakers Series with a presentation by Nicole Anderson, principal and founder of the Anderson Law Group. Inc. ThanksGiVuKKah

With Thanksgiving and Chanuka arriving simultaneously this year, Chabad Center of Laguna Beach hosts two events. First up, “Mindful Octopus” creator and Laguna local Samatha Breit presents an hour of storytelling, yoga and art for children ages 3-10 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Chabad Center. Children can sample latkes and Thanksgiving pie, plus take home a dreidel. $10/child. RSVP to [email protected]

Next, “ThanksGivuKKah at Laguna Main Beach” begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, featuring international street performer Christopher Yates, known as “Rusty B,” who entertains with his fire and sword juggling, giant yoyo spinning, unicycle riding and more. Gobble some latkes and Thanksgiving pie and watch the lighting of the Surfboard Menorah, while kids have fun with face painting and crafts.
